![]() After that I took the image into NIK HDR Efex Pro where I used the Realistic (Strong) preset before returning the image to Aperture for final sharpening and color adjustment. But elsewhere, its dried out, including at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I stitched the three images together in Photoshop CS5 to create the panorama. Water remains in some parts of the lakes footprint, including Utahs Great Salt Lake. I got the three shots for this panorama before it got too close for comfort and then I got on my bike and headed for town. The wind was rocking me back and I had to put the face shield on my helmet down due to the salt that was being carried on the wind. The surface breaks easily under the weight of a vehicle, especially during the wet. In 1985 the Bonneville Salt Flats was designated an Area of Critical Environmental Concern, due to its unique geology and beauty. I was on my bike and I wanted to get back to my hotel before it hit but I couldn’t resist stopping and shooting the storm as it rolled in. In winter and spring, namely November through May, the water collects on the surface of flats and creates a magical mirror effect. the shallow - brine aquifer on the Salt Flats from the area of salt crust. We had to take down our EZ-Ups and get off the Salt Flats because the storm was going to be very intense. Weather cycles may partly explain changes on the Bonneville salt crust. ![]() ![]() ![]() This storm moved in early in the day with 60 mph winds, rain and lightning. There is no probability for any precipitation. The weather on the Salt Flats can change pretty quickly. The cloud coverage will range from 0 around midnight to as high as 100 around 6 am with an average of 21. ![]()
